Phlebotek places phlebotomists and medical assistants in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, doctor's offices, and health screenings. We are currently searching for great lab techs in Miami who have phlebotomy experience.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Pick up specimens from clinics and hospitals and transport to the laboratory.
Provides support to physicians, clinic and laboratory staff as necessary.
Receives and accepts the samples coming from the clinics, hospital, and all other clients separate them by type of test required and distribute to the different laboratory sections that will perform each specific type of test with generated worksheets. Scans bar code labels received.
Records all orders/accessioning data for all laboratory tests received in Outport (Laboratory Information System).
Troubleshoots and completes specimen information when it is not complete. Consults with transplant coordinators when orders are not clear or do not follow physician approved protocols.
Prepares hospital vouchers, lists and collection tubes for inpatients at JMH. Generate worksheets.
Creates labels, and for mail-in orders creates Bar Code labels.
Performs phlebotomy for transplant patients, research patients and control donors. If certified and/or trained to do so.
Compares accessioning records to samples received to ensure accessioning accuracy 100%. Investigate missing samples. Performs QA on all accessioned samples.
Maintains rooms and ensures all, including equipment, is clean and functional.
Answers phones and assists callers with their accessioning needs, if unable to provide an answer, routes callers to appropriate staff member/laboratory.
Organizes stock and maintains inventory.
Prepares, freezes and stores patient samples per laboratory protocol. Creates and maintains an inventory of these samples.
Disposes of all biohazard waste, chemical waste and radioactive waste according to University/EHS policy and procedure.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate well
Solid computer skills
Phlebotomy certification/skills preferred
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship
ability to work an on call schedule and variable shift with appropriate notification
1st shift - 7:00am to 3:30pm (M – S)
2nd shift - 1:00pm to 9:30pm (M – F)
Required rotation on Saturday and Sunday 7:00 am – 3:30pm, based on the number of employees, currently every 4th week
